Serial's Story (Unreal Engine)
Serial's Story is first person horror game that was created in Unreal Engine 5. This project took a month to be complete.
The game revolves around the player exploring and finding hints and items to progress through the level.
The game takes place in an old house where there was a murder.The player plays as a investigator who is here to find out what exactly happened.
The player has to explore the area in order to find hints or clues leading to the suspects of the murder.
However, while the player does that, an eerie ambience starts to play as the player finds out more about the murder.
The house was modelled to only be the first level of the game hence only consist of 2 levels to the old house.
All the lightings and textures of the map were built in a way to create a creepy feeling for the player.
To further push the horror feel for the game, we also created and fit in certain scenes into the map that would have a cutscene or a creepy sequence that would give the player a sense of fear.
For an example, in this screenshot, the player is looking down a long hallway where the light at the end out flicker and in he/she would have saw someone or something during that time.
We also researched on a few objects or sounds that might creep certain people out.
In this scene, the sweet tune of a piano could turn utterly scary in the wrong situation.
The player would have heard the piano from the hallway in the previous screenshot but when he/she enters that room the piano keys would all be hit and no one was even playing it.
This screenshot shows how the player would search for items or clues.
If the player is close enough there would be a pop up that would indicate the player could interact with the object.
Another way to set the scary mood for the player we used was the note system.
In the map there are multiple notes that may tell the player hints or solution to puzzles, however they also tell the story of the game as well.
For an example, one of the notes might say :
I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it I did it I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it I didn't do it
